CENU’s participation in MEXMUN 34 brought valuable learning experiences and plenty to celebrate. Our students took on challenging academic debates, demonstrated their research, argumentation, and diplomacy skills, and returned with two delegates recognized for their outstanding performance.

From October 16 to 18, 16 CENU high school students participated in MEXMUN 34, one of Mexico’s largest Model United Nations conferences, held at Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Mexico City Campus.

Emilia Peña Garavito earned an Honorable Mention for her outstanding participation in the WHO (World Health Organization) committee. She also received a 30% scholarship from Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Continuing Education Department.

During the conference, Emilia debated Genomic Research for Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases, a topic that calls for examining scientific advances, their applications in public health, and the ethical and international cooperation challenges surrounding genomic research. Her recognition reflects the preparation, strength of her arguments, and diplomatic skills she demonstrated in a demanding academic setting. Earning this distinction at a conference that brings together delegates from institutions across the country is an achievement we are incredibly proud to celebrate.

We also congratulate our delegate Naomi MartĂnez RodrĂguez, who received additional recognition from her committee's Chair in CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States). Naomi was recognized for her outstanding contributions and leadership during the debate on the Migration Crisis in Latin America and the Caribbean: Migration Toward North America. This topic requires an understanding of regional migration challenges, international cooperation, and the protection of human rights.

Over three days, our 16 delegates researched global issues, defended their positions, engaged with different perspectives, and negotiated agreements. For many, this was their first Model United Nations conference, an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and put skills into practice beyond the classroom. Alongside the awards, every delegate left with new insights and the chance to see what they can accomplish through preparation, the courage to participate, and a commitment to finding solutions.

We proudly celebrate the dedication, preparation, and enthusiasm of all 16 students, who represented CENU and made our school proud.

Experiences like this connect classroom learning with real-world challenges. Researching an issue, supporting a position with sound arguments, and listening to different perspectives enrich our students’ education and help prepare them for university and their future careers.

We thank Alejandra DovalĂ, the teacher who organized this experience, for creating this learning opportunity for our students.

Congratulations to our delegates for representing CENU with dedication and commitment!
