On Friday, September 13th, Centro Educativo Naciones Unidas (CENU) held a civic ceremony to honor the beginning of Mexico’s Independence, highlighting the importance of our history and cultural roots. The ceremony began with flag honors, where third-year middle school students, in charge of the flag escort, participated with respect and solemnity. This was followed by the national anthem and the pledge to the flag, fostering a strong sense of unity.
The students then presented the month’s historical events, recalling key moments from Mexico’s past. One of the standout moments was the reenactment performed by the students, where they depicted the beginnings of the independence movement. The play included scenes such as the imprisonment of Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez and her messenger’s horseback ride from Querétaro to San Miguel el Alto to inform Ignacio Allende, who later joined Miguel Hidalgo in Dolores to start the fight for independence.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of Cambridge certificates to five students who took the PET (Preliminary English Test) exam this year. This test assesses intermediate-level English proficiency, and the students who passed received certificates in recognition of their efforts to reach new academic milestones.
This civic ceremony not only provided an opportunity to commemorate an important historical event, but also to share with our community the achievements of our students, who continue to strive and excel in their academic journey.
