As part of the Civics and Ethics curriculum in our secondary section, the Visitas con Enfoque project encourages students to develop empathy, social responsibility, and a meaningful connection with their community through real-life service experiences.

This school year, our students focused their efforts on supporting the “Vicente Guerrero” preschool in the community of Rancho Viejo and, as in previous years, the ALMA senior residence.
On February 7, our students organized a community event at Plaza La Luciérnaga titled “Ayuda Ayudando – Mini Organic Market.” The activity was carried out in collaboration with the preschool students. In the weeks leading up to the event, both groups worked enthusiastically to create a variety of handmade and natural products — including soaps, herbal balms, candles, slime, and decorative pieces, some made using recycled materials — with the guidance of their teachers.
Beyond the market itself, the process became an important part of the learning experience. Students participated in planning the project, organizing teams, preparing their products, and presenting them to the public. It was an opportunity to step outside the classroom and engage directly with the community.
As part of the event, the students also organized a “Kilometer of Diapers” donation drive in support of the ALMA senior residence. A few days later, they visited the residence to deliver the collected diapers and spend time with the residents. During the visit, the students shared small gifts and organized a simple celebration, creating a warm and meaningful moment of connection.
The funds raised during the market will be used to provide materials for the Vicente Guerrero preschool, and preparations are underway for a future visit where our secondary students will spend time with the preschool children as part of the project’s closing activities.
We would like to especially recognize teacher Elizabeth Arellano, who led this initiative with dedication and care, creating a project that allows our students to understand that learning also happens when knowledge is placed at the service of others.
At Centro Educativo Naciones Unidas, we believe that education becomes truly meaningful when it connects learning with real life and with the community around us.
